War Water Brewery is a Michigan Craft Brewery drawn from the historic recognition of Great Lakes and the “Sixty Years War” that proliferated prohibition which fueled piracy amongst our home waters.  

The Sixty Year’s War (1754-1814) was a military struggle for control of the Great Lakes region, encompassing a number of wars over several generations.  Traditionally, the war for control of the Great Lakes Region has been written about only in reference to the individual wars.  The designation Sixty Years’ War provides a framework for viewing this era as a continuous whole.

The Great Lakes Pirates who generally stalked the lakes during the mid-1800’s into the early 1900’s, may have not sought gemstones or treasure chests as their bounty, but they had their own goals to obtain lumber, illegal alcohol, and venison were the goods that the Great Lakes pirates had their patched eyes on.

Rum Running was a major activity in the early part the 20th Century.  In 1916 the State of Michigan, banned the sale of alcohol, three years before prohibition became the national law in 1919.  From that point forward, the Great Lakes and the rivers dividing Michigan and Canada were a major site for alcohol smuggling and gang activity.

From these historic roots of the Great Lakes – War Water Brewery was born.  Headquartered in 50,000 square feet in St. Clair, Michigan in the Riverview Plaza, War Water brews and distills the finest liquid libations in Michigan.

Founded by Kris & Andrea Paul, both St. Clair natives, War Water caters to those seeking the freshest food and purest craft beers while enjoying breathtaking views of the St. Clair River.

Since opening in 2014 War Water has made it point to make our community a better place.  St. Clair, Michigan located 50 miles north of Detroit offers a unique small-town atmosphere that provides an alternative choice for those who are unsatisfied with the industrialized beers on the market today.  

From a small pilot home brew system, War Water Brewery has grown to a 20 bbl brewery crafting beers available in our St. Clair taproom as well as discerning retailers throughout Southeastern Michigan.  

War Water’s desire to keep Michigan’s history alive drives not only our beer, but our fresh locally sourced menu.  With a seasonally curated food menu that rivals our beer menu, we serve daily specials to complement our beer and hand crafted cocktails.  Whether we are serving you for an intimate lunch, an afternoon happy hour beer or providing banquet space for up to 200 people, we welcome you to enjoy St. Clair in-person.
